Location: Eureka, CA

Work Schedule: Part time - 24 Biweekly hours

Shift: 12 Hour, Nights

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, assists in providing goal directed individualized patient care, utilizing the nursing process and the nursing care plan to an assigned group of patients. Must be enrolled and in good standing in an Accredited Associate Degree or Baccalaureate Professional Nursing Program. Must have completed a minimum of one year of clinical experience within an academic nursing program, meeting all pre-requisites for enrollment to the Nursing Program.

Essential Functions:

  • Assists with taking nursing histories from patients/significant others to establish baseline data reflecting the patient's status relative to: physiological condition, psychological and spiritual needs, socio-economic and cultural status, patient/significant other's expectations.
  • Assists with collecting subjective and objective data for determining patients' problems/needs using appropriate communication skills, data from documentation of previous medical care, physical assessment, diagnostic studies.
  • Contributes to planning and implementing and evaluating nursing care in an organized, safe, humanistic manner which reflect/includes the patients' needs and priorities. Seeks assistance in identifying and setting appropriate priorities; assists in implementing the specific nursing care plan developed by the Registered Nurse; assists the Registered Nurse in revising the Nursing care plan as needed. Participates in patient care related, nursing continuing education, and interdisciplinary conferences. Identifies unusual patients' responses to nursing care and reports findings to the Registered Nurse; documents nursing care activities and observations on appropriate medical records.
  • Assists with the administration of nursing care to adult/pediatric patients who are ambulatory or immobile, conscious or unconscious, oriented or disoriented and understand rationale for technical skills used in delivering patient care; assists with personal hygiene and skin care nursing activities; assists with ambulation and range of motion activities utilizing theoretical knowledge; assists with the maintenance of nutrition and fluid balance and accurately documents intake/output etc., on the appropriate records; performs all nursing care functions/patient care treatments appropriate for the patients on the nursing unit of which he/she has theoretical and clinical preparation and has prior evidence competency validated by faculty within an academic nursing program; recognizes deviations in patients' responses to therapies, as well as pathophysiology and appropriately reports findings to the Registered Nurse.
  • Maintains cooperative and productive working relationships with all members of the health care team. Understand his/her role in relation to providing nursing care activities; understands hospital, nursing department, and unit policies and procedures and utilizes these in providing nursing care; communicates effectively with caregivers and all member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team. Communicates effectively with patients/family members in providing patient care.

Minimum Position Qualifications:

Education :

  • Associate's Degree - Enrolled in Nursing Program.
  • Bachelor's Degree - Enrolled in Nursing Program.

Experience : 1 year - Clinical experience within an academic nursing program, meeting all pre-requisites for enrollment to the Nursing Program.

License/Certification : BLS
