Job Description

We are looking for a Speech/Language Pathologist for the Speech Therapy Department at St. Mary Medical Center. St Mary Medical Center is excited to welcome an enthusiastic out-patient pediatric SLP to our team! The ideal candidate will be passionate about treating the pediatric population with a variety of diagnosis and work well in a team environment. We are a supportive, close knit group that will offer an exceptional staff and work environment. This opening is benefited part time (3 days/24 hrs per week) but has the potential to increase hours if desired as patient load increases.

Location: Apple Valley, CA

Work Schedule: Part Time - 48 Biweekly Hours

Shift: 8-hour, Days

Job Summary:

Evaluates, plans, directs and administers medically prescribed speech/language pathology programs in the hospital to restore function and prevent disability following disease or injury. Assists patient to reach his/her maximum performance and assume a place in society while learning to live within the limits of his/her capabilities. Performs administrative duties and participates in department Performance Improvement, Infection Control, Safety and Education programs. The Staff Speech and Language Therapist may be assigned to orient staff and students and to assume the duties and responsibilities of the supervisor in the absence of that individual.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides patient/client care and assessment in accordance with established practice/departmental guidelines.
  • Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and correct application of clinical techniques, procedures and programs for clinical setting and patient populations served.
  • Develops an accurate individualized plan of care. Goals are feasible based upon findings and patient/family expectations.
  • Plans and makes appropriate discharge plans.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of treatment plan and revises as indicated.
  • Documents patient treatment, reports and charges on a daily basis.
  • Provides patient/family education and training according to established clinic/departmental guidelines.
  • Trains patient and/or primary care provider in post-discharge management.
  • Adapts conventional therapeutic techniques to meet the needs of patients unable to comprehend verbal commands or voluntarily carry out a regime of therapeutic exercises.
  • Plans and attends patient/family meetings, as appropriate events.
  • Prepares and presents appropriate material for educational workshops, lectures and training.
  • Assists with the training and supervision of subordinate staff, students and volunteers.
  • Provides feedback to Director/manager regarding performance, as appropriate.
  • Supervises affiliating students according to department guidelines.

Skills:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Minimum Position Requirements:

Education: Coursework/Training - Graduate of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Board training program.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Current California Speech-Language Pathology License.
  • BCLS from Healthcare Provider.

Preferred Position Qualifications:

Experience: Treatment of the out-patient pediatric population.
