Covenant Health is seeking a On-Call, Speech Therapist at Covenant Health Hobbs Hospital.

Job Summary:

The practice of speech-language pathology shall include assessment, treatment, planning, implementation, education, communication, and demonstration of techniques addressing speech-language, cognitive, and swallowing disorders to meet the needs of patients and their families with supervisory guidance provided as needed. Otherwise, a speech-language pathologist shall work independently without direct supervision. Duties are identical to those of a full-time therapist, but performed on a part-time basis.

Essential Function:

  • • Transports patients to and from group therapy sessions.

• Monitors patients in feeding groups to reinforce feeding and swallowing strategies and to watch for signs of aspiration.

• Assists outpatients undergoing Modified Barium Swallow procedure with completion of necessary paperwork. If patient is a nursing home resident and is unable to complete paperwork, ensures that paperwork is completed by the long-term care facility prior to patient being sent for swallow study.

• Assists with Modified Barium Swallow procedure including mixing of barium consistencies, transferring patients to and from wheelchair, and making sure the study is being videotaped.

• Completes office duties including faxing of reports and mailing paperwork to physicians’ offices and to patients.

• Prepares communication boards.

• Maintains an inventory of materials and equipment and is responsible for sending equipment such as laryngeal mirrors to be cleaned. Assists in completing paperwork required to order supplies or material.

Minimum Position Qualification:


  • Completion of Clinical Fellowship Year.
  • Master's Degree, Conferred from an accredited Speech-Language Pathology program.

Experience: 9 months Professional experience.

License and Certificate:

• Possesses New Mexico license or is in the process of acquiring a New Mexico license.

• Possesses Certification of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

Preferred Position Qualification:

Education: Educated or trained in dysphagia assessment and management.

Experience: 1 year of Acute care and/or inpatient rehabilitation experience.
