Job Description

Advance your career working at a Magnet recognized hospital known for clinical quality and patient safety. Our team is looking for an experienced Pharmacy Technician to join our Pharmacy at St. Joseph Hospital of Orange. This is a part time, 8-hour variable shift for a total of 40 biweekly hours.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Assist the pharmacist in all aspects of the departmental operation.
  • Filling and maintain of the unit-dose, patient medication cassettes, IV admixture, floorstock, and drug inventory systems.
  • Perform relevant tasks including repackaging, compounding, record keeping, billing, clerical functions, and other tasks as assigned.
  • Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities, as well as departmental education and training.
  • Maintain departmental standards and translate policies and procedures into the daily practice.
  • Report directly to the pharmacist on duty and indirectly to a supervisor or manager.

Qualifications and Skills needed for this role:

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Current, valid Pharmacy Technician certificate from the State of California.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy laws, technician’s scopes of practice, role and functions of a pharmacist.
  • Knowledge of proper aseptic techniques.
  • Must possess basic typing skills and have experience working with computers.
  • Knowledge of basic drug terminology, pharmaceutical calculations, and basic pharmacology.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least one (1) year experience as a Pharmacy Technician in an acute care hospital environment.
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification.
