Job Description

The VCU Health System is currently recruiting for an Ambulatory Care CMA position within its Center for Advanced Health Management (CAHM) at 2116 West Laburnum Avenue, a state of the art medical home to complex and geriatric adult patients. Certified Medical Assistant to provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the physician

This clinics within CAHM focus on adult patients of all ages, with advanced chronic disease burden, often complicated by psychosocial challenges and other limiting social determinants.

This CMA will practice as part of an interdisciplinary team, in a value and outcomes-based environment. The MD/NP/RN/CMA team effectively shares a panel of patients, expanding the capacity of the service and improving outcomes, quality of care, and patient satisfaction. The team is supported by wraparound on-site social work, clinical pharmacy, and psychiatric NP resources.

The ultimate goals of the position are to promote quality, continuity of care and cost effectiveness for those patients being managed at CAHM, which requires the ability to balance multiple competing priorities and practice with a high level of autonomy within a team atmosphere.

  • Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:

    • Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association such as, the American Association of Medical Assistants, the American Medical Technologists, The National Association of Healthcare Professions, the American Registry of Medical Assistants, or the National Healthcare Association.
  • Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment:

    • Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association such as, the American Association of Medical Assistants, the American Medical Technologists, The National Association of Healthcare Professions, the American Registry of Medical Assistants, or the National Healthcare Association.
  • Experience REQUIRED:

    • One (1) year of medical assistant work experience within the last three (3) years if individual is not a graduate of a medical assistant program
    • No work experience if individual is a graduate of a medical assistant program
    • Previous experience using a personal computer and various software applications, including Microsoft, e-mail, etc.
    • Demonstrated experience utilizing strong organizational, problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience PREFERRED

    • Two (2) to three (3) years of previous experience as a Certified Medical Assistant
    • Previous experience in an academic health care environment
  • Education/training REQUIRED:

    • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Education/training PREFERRED:

    • Graduation from a Medical Assisting training program from an accredited program of study such as the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).
