Job Description

ResponsibilitiesThe Hospital Laboratory Technician II performs pre and post-analytical activities including specimen processing duties, answering phones to respond to questions within scope of knowledge, accessioning, operating and maintaining laboratory equipment, troubleshooting specimen/test order problems, rotate and discard specimen holds, filing, and participating in special studies as required by the laboratory and medical staff.  Other duties may include assisting with clinical resource leadership/training in specimen processing, monitoring inventories of media and reagents used in diagnostic testing, quality control/quality assurance support, computer operation (report printing) and data entry and retrieval. Must be able to work weekends, holidays and other shifts. NOTE: This position is scheduled from Monday – Friday, 4:30pm-1:00am with rotating holidays. Every other week, you will be scheduled to work on Saturday and Sunday, from 6:30pm-2:30am. Qualifications•HS Diploma •Experience in laboratory specimen processing, preferred •Experience in performing quality control in a clinical lab setting, preferred  •Knowledge of Laboratory Information Systems, Clinical Lab test names and their abbreviated forms •Demonstrated working knowledge of medical terminology to include body functions and their systems. Knowledge of infection control procedures •Ability to perform repetitive tasks, such as pipetting and aliquoting •Ability to work standing, walking, or sitting for extended time periods •Ability to work efficiently and accurately with attention to detail •Demonstrates ability to work on a team and willingness to give assistance to co-workers in other areas •Proven ability to work independently and follow through on assignments UCLA is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
