Job Description

ResponsibilitiesThe Specialty Pharmacy/Outpatient Pharmacy technician processes and fills prescriptions according to the laws and regulations under the supervision of a pharmacist. He/She undertakes other tasks under the direction and supervision of a Pharmacist to provide excellent patient care and ensure the pharmacy runs smoothly. The Specialty Pharmacy technician also helps the pharmacist reach out to patients through clinical interventions to promote adherence. Among other responsibilities, the pharmacy technician will: Sterilize surfaces, equipment and prepare the pharmacy for opening Greet customers and answer questions Perform Outreach calls Receive prescriptions, check their validity and process them. Process prescriptions electronically and ensure all information is complete and accurate Resolve issues when they arise (e.g. rejected insurance claims) Select the appropriate medicine and measure dosages to fill prescriptions Sort, stock, label medication and monitor inventory Undertake administrative tasks (e.g.record-keeping) as assigned Comply with all security measures and quality standards File SARS, TARS and start the Prior Authorization process Help patients attain copay assistance Perform inventory management tasks Perform Pyxis fill for onsite clinics Package prescriptions according to guidelines to be mailed out to patients Adhere to institutional policies and procedures as well as laws and regulations QualificationsValid California Pharmacy Technician license, required Must be detail-oriented, reliable, and able to multitask Must possess excellent communication skills as well as aptitude in using computers Proven experience as a pharmacy technician in the retail setting Proven experience as a pharmacy technician in a Specialty Pharmacy setting Proven experience in submission of Tars, Sars, Prior Authorization and patient assistance programs Experience with an online prescription system Knowledge in pharmacy calculations Knowledge of medication and dosage measurement Knowledge of specialty medications Knowledge of pharmacy law and medical terminology Excellent communication and customer service skills Outstanding organizational skills Reliable with a keen eye for detail UCLA is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
