ResponsibilitiesThis position is for a Psychologist II to deliver sleep (e.g.,
insomnia) protocols on and off campus to the Sleep Research Group within the
David Geffen School of Medicine Medicine-VA Wadsworth department. This
psychologist will work in a clinical research setting on and off campus
(majority of time off campus in the San Fernando Valley and Westside). The
overall vision of the researchers within the Sleep Research Group is the
advancement of the health and healthcare of older adults through
innovative research programs that focus on sleep disorders such as insomnia.
The SRG conducts multi-year randomized trials and other research projects
funded by both government (e.g., VA, NIH) and non-government agencies. The psychologist
will provide cognitive behavioral therapy to research participants following a
research protocol. The psychologist will work collaboratively with
investigators, trainees, and staff at David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA
and other institutions.
QualificationsMinimum of 1 year internship and 1 year of
fellowship/post-graduate experience. Knowledge and practice of Cognitive
Behavior Therapy (CBT) for insomnia. Experience coordinating research projects
including data collection, administering of assessments and interventions.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of behavioral sleep medicine as
demonstrated by post-graduate training in the field and participation in
related research. Thorough knowledge of major issues and recent research in
behavioral medicine and healthcare delivery models to design effective
behavioral interventions. Knowledge of the principles, concepts, methods, and
techniques of health services and clinical research to provide expert advice
and consultation. Ability to implement behavioral interventions and
conduct, score and interpret clinician-administered interviews according to
published methods and research protocols. Ability to apply principles of adult
education to develop appropriate education materials for patients and training
materials for research staff. Ability to act independently in planning and
executing a variety of projects and in making final decisions involving
considerable technical judgment. Ability to work effectively in
multidisciplinary teams of investigators with timely and professional
completion of projects and products. Ability to communicate, both orally (in
person and by telephone), respond to inquiries, and interact with UCLA
officials and representatives from public and private healthcare organizations. Advanced-level
expertise with major office computer programs, including but not limited to:
Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel.
