Senior Radiology Interventional Technologist - Assists the Interventional Radiologists, Neuroradiologists, Neurosurgeons, Vascular Surgeons, Thoracic Surgeons and Cardiologists during a variety of technical procedures including but not limited to percutaneous interventions, diagnostic and therapeutic vascular procedures, invasive procedures, biopsies, drain placements, AAA, TAG, ECMO, and Intra OP Angio for Craniotomy in any of 4 IR suites and in all Hybrid OR/IR rooms, under the direct supervision of a physician.

  • Demonstrates functional understanding of various interventional radiology imaging equipment to include digital x-ray and computer assisted applications.
  • Maintains ability to calibrate and perform analysis functions for vessel diameter and stenosis.
  • Understands the set-up and operation of monitoring equipment and vital sign recording. Provides for documentation in procedure flowsheet as necessary. Assesses patient vital signs and condition as required, notifying physician of any changes.
  • Maintains general knowledge of department medication stock and routes of administration.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work as a cohesive team member with all physicians (surgeons and interventional radiologists) fellows, residents, anesthesiologists, anesthesia techs, OR scrub techs, OR nurses, IR technologists, IR nurses, students and other ancillary department staff in a variety of roles including IR scrub tech, circulator, and monitor.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the use of a power injector and understands contrast utilization, precautions, and reaction treatments.
  • While monitoring case, records all components of case on monitor sheet.
  • Must be available for on-call shifts as necessary to include weekdays and weekends as assigned for vascular, neuro and interventional radiology.
  • Demonstrates ability to assist with neuro intervention procedures at a comprehensive stroke center and is knowledgeable and competent prepping and using the various supplies and equipment used in both IR only and neuro IR/OR hybrid procedures. Must be adaptable to varied working conditions and physician preferences Participates in research and drug trials when applicable.
  • Maintains skills for withdrawing and infusing through intra-arterial and intra-venous catheters.
  • Is proficient in 3-D acquisition and at the cockpit during Neuro hybrid, as well as procedures done with IR only in the IR suite. Must know how to reconstruct single and dual volume 3-D spins understands how to obtain a CT Dyna in neuro and uses the correct ratio of contrast and correct injector settings to visualize different structures in the head. Proficient at Aneurysm analysis and virtual stent. Demonstrates understanding of how to fuse CT Dyna and 3-D spin. Annotates vessels correctly and sends study along with raw data to PACS.
  • Is an integral player during IntraOp Craniotomy Cases in the Neuro Hybrid IR/OR.
  • Understands how to import previous study in Hybrid 9. Must be available to work with surgeons before AAA/TAG cases to set parameters from CT scan for 3-D and fusion.
  • Scrubs and assists the physician as needed during all interventional and hybrid procedures, (see job summary) both percutaneous and open procedures. Understands Roles in IR only cases vs. Hybrid cases both in the Vascular setting and Neuro setting.
  • Anticipates the needs of the physicians in the Vascular group, Neuro group and Radiologist group when scrubbing/circulating/monitoring and has an in-depth understanding of the type of procedure and steps necessary to perform it in neuro, vascular and body procedures
  • Communicates instructions clearly to a variety of patient types during procedures.
  • Accurately uses the inventory control system, which includes choosing the correct patient, correct supply, correctly returning unused supplies and reconciling at the end of the procedure. (Inventory systems vary by campus).
  • Reconciles outstanding patient identification issues (temporary pt registration) by end of shift.
  • Understands the complexities of procedure coding and charging and accurately documents required information and CPT codes.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of all Neuro and Neuro Hybrid procedures including but not limited to Craniotomy, Bypass, Pipeline, Lvis, mechanical thrombectomy both arterial and venous, carotid stent, WADA, Petrosal Sampling, venous sinus pressures, vasospasm, embolization for aneurysm/AVM/Dural Fistula/pre-surgical for tumor resection/Direct access for ophthalmic vein fistula, epitaxis etc.
  • Is familiar with the integration systems in each of the three Hybrid rooms.

Required qualifications:

  • Coursework/Training: Successful completion of a formal Radiologic Technologist program. Or equivalent education/experience
  • Coursework/Training: Successful completion of advanced training in Neuro, Vascular and Hybrid procedures including sign-off by IR preceptor, and demonstrate competency in Hybrid ORs at all locations.
  • A two-year invasive cardiovascular program and successfully pass an approved national exam for Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS).
  • 6 months Tier 1 technologist, demonstrate competency by successful completion of advanced training in Neuro, Vascular and Hybrid procedures including sign-off by IR preceptor, and demonstrate competency in Hybrid ORs at all locations.

  • Required upon hire: National Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist - Cardiovascular Credentialing International

Preferred qualifications:

  • 2 years Experience as an Interventional Technologist preferred, or as a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist.
  • Provider Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association
