ResponsibilitiesUnder the general supervision of the Surgical Pathology Reporting Office (SPRO) Manager, the Hospital Lab Tech II provides technical support to the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine – Anatomic Pathology Send Out Bench. Responsibilities include: Processing and packaging/shipping of pathology tissue samples following appropriate specimen requirements, ensure receipt reference lab results and distribution of results to ordering clinician and pathologist, verification of reference lab invoices for accuracy, ensure that billable tests are billed to the patient, set up and maintain reference lab accounts, act as liaison between reference lab, ordering clinician and pathology department. Work with Manager and other key personnel in the implementation of new or modified procedures, protocols and quality assurance. QualificationsRequired Qualifications Knowledge of general anatomic pathology procedures, practices and workflows. Working knowledge of proper handling of pathologic specimens and related restrictions. General understanding of medical billing and accounting practices. Ability to effectively communicate with clinicians and laboratory staff regarding lab test methodologies and specimen requirements. Experience working in AP Beaker or an equivalent laboratory information system. Constantly positions self (ascends/descends, extend/contract, rotate/pivot) to access slide files, stock specimen kits. Ability to lift and/or push up to 30 pounds. Preferred Qualifications BS degree in chemical, physical or biological sciences. UCLA is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
