Position Summary: The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) participates in planning and implementing the patient care under the supervision of the Circulating Registered Nurse and based on the Nursing Process. The CST assists the surgeon during operative procedures, ensures the operating suite is adequately prepared for the procedure, monitors PAR levels of supplies and equipment, and participates in the cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Surgical Technician Course completion.
Experience: Must meet one of the following minimum requirements to be eligible for employment per SC State Law 44-7-380:
Requirement 1:
- Certification form an accredited Surgical Technician educational program and;
- Certified by the National Board of Surgical Technology within 90 calendar days from graduation date and;
- Evidence of a minimum of 15 hours CEU’s annually (regardless if employed or not with TH throughout the entire calendar year)
Requirement 2:
- Certified as Surgical Technician by the US Army, Navy, Air Force, marine Corps, Coast Guard or US Public Health Service and;
- Evidence of a minimum of 15 hours CEU’s annually (regardless if employed or not with TH throughout the entire calendar year)
Requirement 3:
- Evidenced that the individual was employed to practice as a Surgical Technician in a South Carolina Healthcare facility or the federal government prior to Jan 1, 2008 (a break in service will not disqualify the individual as long as employment as a Surgical Technician is documented prior to Jan 1, 2008) and;
- Evidence of a minimum of 15 hours CEU’s annually (regardless if employed or not with TH throughout the entire calendar year)
Skills: Works with patients, families and other health care providers.
License/Certification:
- American Heart Association Healthcare provider course with Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required to be initially completed with the TH Organizational Development Office within 30 calendar days of hire date (exceptions to obtain certification from a provider other than the TH Organizational Development Office are approved by TH Organizational Development on a case by case basis). BLS Recertification is required every two (2) years.
- Surgical Technologist (CST) certification, unless meet one of the requirements above.
Physical Requirements: Medium Physical Agility Test (PAT) Rating
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently (activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) required to stand, sit, and walk; occasionally (activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) to use hands, fingers; and frequently to talk or hear. The employee must exert 20 to 35 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 15 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Tidelands Waccamaw Rehabilitation Hospital
Tidelands Waccamaw Rehabilitation Hospital is a hospital within a hospital, located inside Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital. It is the region’s only inpatient rehabilitation facility, providing concentrated physical, occupational and speech therapy for acute patients. The rehabilitation hospital is one of a select few facilities in South Carolina accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.
Two cancer treatment centers
Tidelands Health was the first to bring radiation therapy to Georgetown County when we opened the Francis B. Ford Cancer Treatment Center in 2004. And the system’s cancer treatment options have expanded at Tidelands Waccamaw Cancer Center in Murrells Inlet.
