Job Description

Cytogenetic Technical Supervisor (Full-time, Day Shift) -

Job Duties: Work in the Clinical Genetics Laboratory, performing analyses on biological abnormalities and diseases for the purpose of patient diagnosis. Assist with the organization of laboratory activities. Collaborate with other cytogeneticists, doctors and lab technicians to conduct appropriate genetic and biochemical testing. Examine their cytogenetic endpoints, including chromosomal aberrations, sister chromatid exchanges, and micronucleus staining in buccal smears, to determine the genesis of a genetic abnormality or disease. Analyze data necessary for genetic tests. Review and interpret genetic laboratory results, recommending modification or enhancements where necessary. Assist in developing protocols to improve existing genetic techniques and incorporating new diagnostic procedures. Provide technical leadership and serve as a resource for junior laboratory scientists, including training in laboratory safety techniques. Responsible for maintaining LLUMC’s technical Quality System essentials including ensuring compliance with current regulatory/accreditation standards. Maintain accurate laboratory records and data.

Master’s Degree or equivalent in Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Cellular Biology, Molecular Biology or a related field required. Minimum three years of experience in Cytogenetics and meets the following experiential requirements listed below.

  1. Three years of cytogenetics or related scientist/research experience;

  2. Three years of [cytogenetics or related scientist/research experience] performing cytogenetic analysis on cancer specimens for diagnosis and prognosis;

  3. Three years [cytogenetics or related scientist/research experience] working with and developing new FISH assays;

  4. Three years of [cytogenetics or related scientist/research experience] designing and conducting cytogenetic research projects;

  5. Three years of [cytogenetics or related scientist/research experience] evaluating test results for validity;

  6. Three years of [cytogenetics or related scientist/research experience] preparing scientific manuscripts for publication; and

  7. Three years [cytogenetics or related scientist/research experience] training junior scientists.

Current State of California Clinical Cytogeneticist Scientist required.
