Sr. Community Health Program Rep

Job DutiesIn the UCLA CARE Center's AIDS Malignancy Consortium develop and implement a comprehensive community engagement strategy, conduct outreach, health promotion, recruitment, and retention activities for the Aids Malignancy Consortium (AMC) and industry-sponsored HIV clinical trials with emphasis on HIV related cancer, gene therapy and cure" trials . This position will be under the immediate supervision of the AMC Project Manager, and the Principal Investigator. Promote the CARE Center Malignancy and Gene Therapy Programs to physicians and health care providers, potential candidates, community based organizations, research organizations, the UCLA community, and fundraising organizations. Participate on committees to serve and promote the CARE Center. Provide verbal and written analyses of issues that inhibit or limit participation or access to clinical trials and implement plans to increase enrollment. Establish and maintain good working relationships with individuals in the HIV/AIDS related field. Position requires attendance at some evening and weekend meetings/events. All other duties outlined below.

Job QualificationsKnowledge in pathogenesis, symptoms, approved and experimental therapies against HIV and related diseases as well as familiarity with HIV prevention trials. Knowledge in epidemiology of HIV transmission. Ability to explain scientific information in simple terms to lay people. Ability to maintain an empowering attitude toward people with HIV/AIDS. Ability to maintain confidentiality with clients at all times. Ability to communicate with patients, staff and CARE Center collaborators in an effective and articulate manner. Demonstrated leadership skills, and ability to work independently. Ability to coordinate groups that may have diverse interests and the ability to work toward consensus while respecting the diversity of opinion and views. Ability to understand and work within a mandated regulatory environment and assure that others are able to follow the regulatory requirements CRSs, Networks and protocols. Working knowledge of HIV risk-reduction methods and drug adherence techniques and the ability to communicate these strategies to patients. Ability to be self-motivating. Ability to work with a diverse population. Ability to be instrumental in outreach and education endeavors. Skill in time management, prioritizing and overall organization. Knowledge of AIDS related research, patient care, and professional medical education. Ability to make formal written and oral presentations. Established skills in public speaking to large groups. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with UCLA staff and outside collaborators. Ability to organize and coordinate meetings to benefit patients and staff regarding HIV/AIDS related treatments. Knowledge in epidemiology of HIV transmission. Ability to explain scientific information in simple terms to lay people. Daily access to or ownership of a personal vehicle for travel to meetings and events throughout Los Angeles County. Ability to work some evenings and weekends. Ability to access targeted populations and effectively implement a plan for disseminating information about CARE Center Clinical Trials. Preferred: Experience in health education, HIV testing and counseling. Ability to assess specific details of patient clinical trial eligibility.
